French mathematician and philosopher. Formulated Pascal's law regarding the transmission of pressure through a liquid in a closed container, and the unit of pressure in physics was named for him. Also known for rationalizing belief in God with Pascal's Wager, which held that an agnostic would lose little by not beliving in God if He did not exist but would lose a lot if He did.
